Lease History

In 2004 The Nature Conservancy purchased the property we lease north of the Railroad and gave the State of New York a "Recreational Easement" that allowed all but the immediate 5 acre envelope around our cabin to be used as "State Land" outside Big Game Hunting Season. As we discovered in a 2012 Monitoring Report, we came to learn that our cabin was less than 200 feet from Page Swamp. A buffer that did not exist or matter until the DEC and TNC decided it did - 47 years after our club built the cabin and 43 years after the club built a dam and spillway with proper notice and approval from the NYS Conservation Department creating Page Pond. Through a series of events over the next 10 years we came very close to losing our lease and perhaps our club with it.

On October 1, 2020 we signed a 10 year lease with TNC. Here is the whole story and how we got here:
